HI THERE!

I’m Mary, a 29-year-old ginger living in Detroit.  I am a producer at a news station downtown.

Being a producer wasn’t always my path; when I graduated from Michigan State University, I was ready to mold the minds of the youth, being a History and English teacher. However, that quickly changed when I went into the classroom.  I love telling history stories and talking about Shakespeare, but I didn’t enjoy teaching it in a traditional school setting.

Cut to today, and my job is sharing a collection of short stories to keep audiences informed about what’s happening in the world.

I spend too much of my free time watching British television and writing fanfiction.  I have been to the United Kingdom a handful of times in the past decade, so watching shows makes me want to go back (if I could live there, I would, but you know visas).  As for my love of writing fanfiction… I am a storyteller at my core, so writing original content for news or just writing stories about something I’m watching on TV allows my creativity to flow continuously in my professional and personal life.  Fanfiction gets a bad rap, but for me, it’s just another way of expressing creativity about something you love to watch without having to spend extra time creating original characters or content.  The universe exists. You just get to add different fun stories to it.

If I am not working, I am probably trying to figure out my next trip.  My older brother lives in Europe, so I try to visit him when I have the time.  Also, even when I do visit him, I always still end up back in the UK, writing on a bench at Hyde Park.
